Featured Greek Week Steering Committee Members

Molly Boland
Service Committee

What experiences have you had with Greek Week Steer Co that have enriched your college experience?
I'm so thankful to be a part of the 2011 Greek Week Steer Co. Not only do I get to meet and make friends with other members of multiple Greek Chapters, but I am also presented with the opportunity to show how much good Greeks can do on and off campus. As a member of the service committee, I get to work with the fourteen beneficiaries in mid-Missouri and observe the various creative efforts of Mizzou’s Greek community. I think it's so important for one to find activities that can shape his or her college years into something more than just school work. Thanks to Greek Week, my college experience is not only contributing to the betterment of my future, but also to the futures of many others.

What has it been like to be on different steering committees?
I always tell people the day I became Greek was one of the best days of my life. Little did I know being Greek got better by the day! Sometime during my first year at MU, one of my sorority sisters explained to me what a steering committee was and I was so intrigued. I knew it was something I wanted to be a part of before graduation. If I wouldn't have gone Greek, I'm not sure I wouldn’t know what a steering committee was to this day. Here I am, buried in my third year of school and I'm so lucky to have been given the chance to serve on two different steering committees. It's been busy, rewarding and fun all at the same time. I've been challenged in several ways but learned countless useful skills along the way. To anyone considering applying for a steering committee position, DO IT -- and if it doesn't work out, try and try again! The things you will accomplish and the friends you will gain are irreplaceable.

“Having the opportunity to work with students from other Greek houses has been a really cool experience for me. Everyone gets along so well, and there isn’t any tension that you might expect from rival chapters.”

“The best experience for me at this point is definitely the people I've met. One of my goals at Mizzou was to join a sorority, but also to become involved in as many things on campus as I can to meet great people. Already, I've met so many people in other chapters who have made an impact on me, and on my college experience. Each person is unique and they all bring a little taste of something to the committee that brings the best out of others... and me.”
– Bailey Kitchell, Special Events Committee
